Summer is here. How can you and your family stay hydrated while avoiding added sugars? Check out our refreshing ideas to help you break free from added sugars while you’re shopping and when you get home.
Many drinks are overflowing with added sugars. Try our tips for cutting back.
In the Aisles
- Look for our Better Choice shelf tags throughout the store to identify foods that have less of the things you don’t need, like added sugar.
- When buying dairy alternatives (e.g., almond milk), look for unsweetened varieties.
- Choose beverages with no added sugars, such as water or unsweetened tea, in place of sodas and other sugar-sweetened beverages.
- Reduce the size of sugar-sweetened beverages. Instead of a 20-oz soda, switch to a 12-oz can or even one of the new 7.5-oz cans.
In the Kitchen
Publix chefs have developed delicious Better Choice soup and beverage recipes without all the added sugar to keep you and your family hydrated this summer.
- Make soups with hydrating fruits and vegetables. Try our Thai Watermelon Soup, Grilled Peach Gazpacho, or Golden Tomato & Peach Soup.
- Skip the enhanced and vitamin waters, which can be full of added sugars as well as preservatives. Instead, make your own fruit-infused water or tea. Try our Cherry-Melon Hibiscus Refresher.
