Fall is a welcome time for warm, robust flavors to return to the kitchen as well as the wine glass. Fruity, fresh summertime favorites like rosé and sauvignon blanc move aside in favor of earthy, rich, spiced wines like chardonnay, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon, and red blends. And while all wines can be enjoyed year-round, there’s something special about opening a bottle with flavors that match harmoniously with those of favorite fall fare.
Chardonnay, for example, often brims with apple notes, often accented by piecrust, cinnamon, and nutmeg flavors that make the white wine just weighty enough to enjoy on a cool day.
The array of earth and spice notes in pinot noir make the wine ideal as a transition from summer to fall. A fuller-bodied pinot holds its own against some of the heartier dishes quintessential to an autumn menu like roast chicken, braised meats, and lentil-based soups.
Beyond chardonnay and pinot noir are countless fall favorites: red blends, cabernet sauvignon, and even grand syrah and zinfandel bottles fit the bill. Here are a few Publix favorites.
Fall Favorites to Sip
Chardonnay
La Crema Chardonnay: Baked apple and ripe pear notes as well as a sweet baking spice flavor give this wine a full, juicy mouthfeel.
Pinot Noir
Erath Pinot Noir: Each rich sip brings a complexity to the glass, including tart pomegranate, ripe berries, and sandalwood layered within a medium-bodied palate.
Red Blend
Z Alexander Red Blend: A commanding, but not domineering, wine with ripe blueberry, black cherry, and baking spice flavors.
Cabernet Sauvignon
Josh Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon: Flavors of roasted almond, vanilla, and hazelnut mingle with a core of ripe blackberry, cinnamon, and clove.
