Ultimate Lox and Cream Cheese Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • 8 slices Publix Bakery Everything Bread
  • 1 small red onion
  • 8 tablespoons whipped cream cheese
  • 8 oz smoked salmon slices
  • 1 cup alfalfa sprouts (optional)
  • 4 teaspoons capers
  • 4 teaspoons lemon juice

Steps

    1. Toast bread, if desired. Slice onion thinly (½ cup). Place bread on flat work surface; spread 2 tablespoons cream cheese each on 4 slices.
    2. Top remaining 4 slices of bread evenly with salmon, onions, sprouts (if using), capers, and lemon juice. Place first 4 bread slices cream cheese-side down on sandwich fillings.
Other Preparation Methods
    • Appetizer: Preheat oven to 350°F. Chop 1 sweet onion (1 cup) and 1 tablespoon fresh sage finely. Melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter in large sauté pan, then add onions and sage. Cook and stir 4 minutes until softened. Cut 6 oz Everything Bread into ¼-inch cubes; place in large bowl. Stir in onion mixture and ¼ cup egg substitute until blended. Roll (form) bread mixture into 1-inch balls (about 12) and place on parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 20–25 minutes until golden. Serve with gravy or cheese sauce.
