Ingredients

  • 4 oz brandy (or cognac)
  • 4 oz orange juice
  • 4 oz triple sec
  • 1 750-mL bottle red wine (such as merlot)
  • ⅛ cup superfine sugar
  • 1 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 apple, cut into ½-inch cubes
  • 1 cup club soda

Steps

    1. Fill pitcher with all ingredients (except club soda).
    2. Stir well. Let stand 30 minutes to blend flavors (or serve immediately).
    3. Serve in an ice-filled cocktail glass; top with club soda and stir gently.

Other Preparation Methods

    Make it white.
    Follow original recipe, but substitute a white wine for the red wine.

    Add a touch of summer fruit flavor.
    Substitute (or add) mango nectar or peach juice instead of the orange juice. Add chunks of the fruit, if in season.
