Ingredients

  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger
  • ½ gallon apple cider
  • 15 cinnamon sticks, divided
  • 5 whole cloves (or ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 (0.5 oz) package star anise, divided (optional)
  • 1 (14 oz) bag mixed apple slices

Steps

    1. Peel and slice ginger; place in large saucepan. Stir in cider, 3 cinnamon sticks, cloves, nutmeg, allspice, and 1 star anise (if using).
    2. Cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and remove cover; simmer 5 minutes.
    3. Place in cups and garnish with remaining cinnamon sticks, apple slices, and star anise (if using). Serve hot.
    NOTE: For an adult beverage, stir in 1 cup spiced rum just before serving.
