Ingredients
- 4 cups mixed fresh berries (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries)
- ¼ cup light brown sugar
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 (6 ct) package shortcake dessert shells (or 6 slices pound cake)
- Whipped topping or ice cream (optional for serving)
Steps
- Place berries in medium saucepan on medium; cook and stir 5–6 minutes until berries start to release their juices.
- Whisk sugar, syrup, cornstarch, and cinnamon until blended; stir into berries. Cook and stir 2–3 minutes until mixture comes to a simmer and begins to thicken.
- Serve berry mixture warm (or chilled) over dessert shells. Top with whipped topping or ice cream, if using.
Other Preparation Methods
- Milkshake: Place 1 cup milk, 3 cups mixed fresh berries, and 4 cups softened vanilla ice cream in blender; blend until smooth.
- Vinaigrette: Place 1 cup mixed fresh berries, ½ cup olive oil, ¼ cup cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, and ½ teaspoon salt in blender; blend until smooth. Toss ½ cup dressing with 6 oz baby spinach and ½ cup each praline pecans, crumbled feta cheese, and yogurt-covered raisins.
