meat thermometerFor your safety, and the safety of your friends and family, it is important to accurately measure the temperature of your turkey. Below are some important steps to ensure your thermometer is accurate. We want to be certain you have a very happy Thanksgiving.

  1. Select a container large enough to hold the probe and part of the scale on the thermometer.
  2. Prepare an ice slush solution with equal parts ice and clean water (50/50).
  3. Wait three minutes for the mixture to reach 32° F.
  4. Lower the thermometer probe a minimum of 2 inches into the mixture. Do not allow the probe to touch the sides or bottom of the container. Wait two to three minutes.
  5. Verify the thermometer reading.
    • If the thermometer reads 32° F, then you may use the thermometer to monitor products.
    • If the thermometer reads any other temperature, then calibrate the thermometer by loosening the nut behind the temperature dial and turning the dial until it reads 32° F.
Note: You can also calibrate and verify the calibration of digital thermometers.
