Food Safety in our Stores
To ensure we safely provide the freshest, high-quality products for you, all store, department and assistant managers must complete our food safety program. Publix uses Certified Food Safety training materials to certify managers before they are placed into their management positions. Refresher training and testing is required every five years to maintain their certification.
Publix Associates who prepare or handle the various foods sold in our Deli, Bakery, Meat, Seafood and Produce departments are trained with standardized food safety materials. There are several important focal points during training, including:
- Proper food handling
- Personal hygiene requirements
- Appropriate food storage
- Effective sanitation
- Pest control
Each of our stores undergoes a quarterly food safety audit by a third party firm to review their food safety practices. Any necessary retraining of associates is applied to ensure the safety of the products we provide.
All of the information presented in food safety training courses for Publix Associates is consistent with the rules and regulations used by state inspectors for retail grocery stores.
