Generic Drugs

Your neighborhood Publix Pharmacy provides many varieties of brand-name and generic drugs. In general, generic drugs can mean a 30-60% savings, compared to their brand-name equivalent. These drugs must also meet stringent Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, by containing the identical active ingredients and producing the same effect on the body. Generic drugs must be bioequivalent and have equal strength, quality, purity and potency as their brand-name counterparts. Check with your Publix pharmacist to see if a generic option is available and appropriate for your health needs.

As of July 1, 2010, the following generic drugs are now available at your local Publix Pharmacy. Please speak with your Publix pharmacist for complete details about these drugs and their use:

  • Losartan 25, 50, 100mg tablets: A generic equivalent for Cozaar tablets.
  • Losartan/HCTZ 50-12.5, 100-12.5, 100-25mg tablets: A generic equivalent for Hyzaar tablets.
  • Venlafaxine ER 37.5, 75, 150mg capsules: A generic equivalent to Effexor XR capsules.
  • Naratriptan 1, 2mg tablets: A generic equivalent to Amerge tablets.
  • Azelastine 137mcg Nasal Spray: A generic equivalent to Astelin Nasal Spray.
  • Rivastigmine 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6mg capsules: A generic equivalent to Exelon capsules.
  • Adapalene 0.1% Gel: A generic equivalent to Differin 0.1% Gel.

New drugs are becoming available all of the time. These generic drugs are expected to be available soon at your neighborhood Publix Pharmacy. Please ask your Publix pharmacist or check with your doctor for more information regarding these drugs and their use:

  • Adapalene 0.1% Cream: A generic equivalent to Differin 0.1% Cream.
  • Fexofenadine/Pseudoephedrine 180/240mg tablets: A generic equivalent to Allegra D 24hr tablets.

Generic drugs can offer many benefits, including:

  • commonly having a lower price than brand-name drugs.
  • generally requiring a lower co-pay than their brand-name counterparts.
  • containing the same active ingredients with the same effects as the brand-name equivalent.

Your Publix pharmacist understands that health and happiness go hand-in-hand and wants to help you and your family by being a vital part of your healthcare team.
