Every Publix Super Market is a multi-million dollar enterprise that offers rewarding career paths and exciting earnings potential. Each of our more than 900 stores is staffed with an average of 140 associates, providing extensive employment opportunities.

Full-time, non-management associates can earn as much as $25,000 per year, depending on pay rate, hours worked, and experience. And there is a clear career path leading to management from nearly every job in the store.

If you want to be considered for a management position, you will know—in advance—exactly what experience you need to obtain to be eligible. Average earnings for our management positions are as follows.

$44,300 per year for Assistant Department Managers
$64,600 per year for Department Managers
$76,400 per year for Assistant Store Managers
$110,700 per year for Store Managers

Frequently, there are also opportunities for store associates to transfer to other stores or into positions in other parts of the company like Manufacturing, Distribution, and Corporate Offices.

Additional Benefits

Part-time and full-time store associates may be eligible for two bonuses, as well. The first is a quarterly profit-sharing bonus based on the financial performance of the store in which they work. That means the better associates work together as a team, the greater their financial reward. The second is a holiday bonus paid in December.

I came to work for Publix in 1980 because of its reputation as a great place to work. I continue to stay for the same reason. I started as a bagboy, or what we now call a Front Service Clerk. I worked in several hourly positions throughout the store before being promoted to Second Assistant Manager, Assistant Store Manager and in 1992 as Store Manager. I was promoted to District Manager in 1999.

My future with Publix is a very bright one. I really appreciate that I'm with a great organization that's solid as a rock and continues to outpace industry norms as far as sales, profits and store growth are concerned.

We probably could make even more money if the company wasn't so open and honest in its business practices. But that would only hurt us in the long term. Publix has never taken a short-sighted approach. We've always tried to do what's best for customers, vendors and associates.

I love this industry because of the job security. It's practically recession proof because everyone has to eat. But what I love most is working with Publix people. I thoroughly enjoy seeing associates achieve the goals they set out to achieve, knowing that you played a part in helping them reach those goals.
