Publix Reaches Milestone: 1000th Store Set to Open in St. Augustine

LAKELAND, Fla., Jan. 15, 2009 – Publix’s 1000th store will open on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 8 a.m., Shoppes at Murabella, St. John’s County, Fla. This 54,000 square foot store location will include Publix pharmacy, bakery, deli, floral and fresh seafood. The store will employ approximately 115 associates.
“We are proud of our 79-year history, rich in providing superior customer service and delivering a high quality selection of foods, products and services,” said Publix President, Todd Jones. “Our core philosophy remains the same: we strive to be your grocer of choice, there for every memorable moment — becoming your Publix. Being a part of the lives of our customers and associates is as important in our 1000th store as it was in our first.”
Opening day festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. with a performance by the St. John’s Academy of the Arts choral group. To commemorate the milestone, Publix will grant eight local area schools $1,000 each to use toward the purchase of school supplies:
Invited guests include St. John’s County Chamber President, Trustees and Ambassadors, School Board members, Superintendent of Schools and school principals, along with other community leaders. In addition, the Florida Historical Society will be on-hand to recognize and document this milestone.
